Ian Lavery MP today joined members of the local community in Wansbeck to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day landings.

As events took place across the country and veterans gathered in Normandy to remember the sacrifice made by Allied troops, Mr Lavery joined representatives of the Royal British Legion as part of a service facilitated by the Word of Life Church. After the commemoration, Mr Lavery spoke of the bravery and courage of Northumbrian’s involved in the WW2 conflict;

“It was an honour this morning to lay a wreath as part of the 75th D-Day anniversary, marking the heroism and the sacrifice of many young men and women from Northumberland.”

“Thank you to the Royal British Legion and Reverend Michael Hedley from the Word of Life church for facilitating this important event of remembrance and commemoration.”
