Member of Parliament for Wansbeck and Chair of the Labour Party, Ian Lavery, said it was a ‘privilege’ to open a new play-park in a Northumberland Town, after a joint investment of £209,000 helped deliver the scheme with the support of Labour councillors.

Mr Lavery spoke to local school children and residents who were gathered to see the long-awaited project open in the People’s Park, Ashington. Ian praised the councillors who supported the scheme since its infancy, along with the town council, local contractors and charities who all contributed toward the development which Mr Lavery said would be “enjoyed by generations to come”.

Ashington’s Labour Councillors, Lynne Grimshaw, Brian Gallacher, Ken Parry, Mark Purvis and Tommy Wilson attended the event with other officials from Ashington Town Council and Northumberland Labour Group from the County Council.

Speaking after the event, Mr Lavery said; “Thank you to everyone who made this possible and it’s been a privilege and an honour to present this new playpark to the young people in our community who will enjoy it for many years to come!”.
