Member of Parliament for Wansbeck, Ian Lavery, has publicly welcomed the re-opening of Newbiggin’s West End Post Office which has for some time been closed – making many residents in the local community uncertain about its future.
In a statement released following the news from the Post Office, Mr Lavery said; “Its great news for our community to see that finally, West End Newbiggin Post Office will re-open, providing a much needed and much-missed service to local residents who now will not have to continue travelling further afield. Thank you to all the constituents who have contacted me since the closure and those I have dealt with since, in our communities ongoing mission to re-open this vital community asset, well done to everyone involved.”
The Post Office issued the following statement announcing the news;
We are delighted to let you know that following the temporary closure of West End Newbiggin Post Office we will be re-opening the branch on Friday 16 August 2019 at 1 pm. This will be in a new location – Martin McColls, Cleveland Terrace, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, NE64 6RF where it will be known as Cleveland Terrace Post Office.
Your new Post Office branch
Customers would access Post Office services at a low-screened, open-plan, modern serving point that’s part of the retail counter. Working with the postmaster, we’d adapt the current store layout, fixtures and fittings to accommodate the Post Office till if needed. The branch will offer a wide range of Post Office products and services over longer opening hours, so customers can access their Post Office when it’s convenient. Customer satisfaction with local style branches stands at 96 per cent, and nearly 20 per cent of local branch customers visit outside traditional opening hours.
