Labour Party Chairman and Northumberland MP Ian Lavery, joined with Chief Executive of the Port of Blyth Martin Lawlor on a tour of the facility this week.

Mr Lavery had visited the port previously but was keen to see the recent developments taking place and to hear the plans for the port’s increased expansion.

Speaking after the visit, Mr Lavery said;

“The recent spell of lovely weather made the boat journey I took with Port of Blyth’s Chief Executive Martin Lawlor, very pleasant indeed. Together we took a tour of the Port, which is continuing to expand and develop, employing hundreds of local people from across Northumberland directly on site and many more indirectly.”

“I’m looking forward to continuing to work alongside Martin to ensure that our communities benefit from the trade that is coming through and leaving this port. I am especially excited to see what further training opportunities can be offered to our young people here in expanding new industries such as offshore renewable energy.”
